Back to Brooklyn : Taste of an Irish Winemaker!

I wrote about the Red Hook Winery in Brooklyn at the end of 2010. It was a general piece on garagiste winemaking. At the tail end I suggested that a look at the Brooklyn Winery might be rewarding. Well, guess who didn't look very deeply into it himself! I was scanning the Brooklyn Winery blog earlier looking for something (always on the go!!) and noticed that their winemaker is a lad called Conor McCormack. Now there's a likely name from the old country!

A quick look and, yes indeedy, he was born in Limerick. Mind you, he does seem to have been brought up in California but we won't let that get in the way of claiming him as one of our own.

Here's the piece from the blog at the Brooklyn Winery  and is that bottle of whiskey?

Conor McCormack - Winemaker Winemaker

Born in Limerick, Ireland and raised in Northern California, Conor McCormack got into winemaking after graduating college. “Making wine wasn’t on my radar until I saw a craigslist posting for a harvest intern in 2003 while hunting for a job post-college. It was serendipitous, but once I got into it, there was no stopping.” Conor brings a strong combination of technical training and hands-on experience to Brooklyn Winery, specializing in boutique premium wines.

So, next time we're looking for something new to do in Brooklyn we can head over and have a taste of what one of our newer wine geese is up to!
